i'm not ashamed to admit it...i enjoy a catchy pop song every now and again. During my formative college years Rooney was the go to sing-a-long band. Whether in the car or in the shower they kept you "Sh-Sh Shakin'." Thanks in part to The O.C. and all the Seth Cohen lovers of the world, the band gained some mild success in 2003. Now with the release of their sophomore album and their first almost-headlining tour, i was skeptical to spend $7.99 of my iTunes credit on just another "sophomore slump."

...i was pleasantly amused.

Lyrically, "Calling The World" manages to capture every girl's fantasy - to be with a rock star - and the inevitable downfall that ensues. In true fashion, these encounters fuel them to write lyrics based on said "Princesses" (check out "All In Your Head" & "I Should've Been After You") only supplementing their career as musicians. Just another day in the life of a Rock Star. Now, as far as their imitation of The Doors: Legacy album cover, i must protest. Come on boys, you may have the 70's shag, Morrison pout and electric keyboard going for you, but unless you have an addiction to heroine you don't stand a chance against The Doors...so do your own thing.

Last night at The Black Sheep, the boys were rather charming and all smiles, except for bassist Matthew Winter, who chose to hide mysteriously behind his trendy Ray-Bans. it's refreshing to watch a band who actually enjoys what they do and makes sure their paying customers do as well. i'm sick of those self-involved, emo, i don't care about anything pseudo bands. You're performing every night for weeks on end, you might as well make the most of it. Despite their teen-idol persona, Rooney is a force to be reckoned with and the perfect driving-with-the-top-down, i wish i was at the beach, California band.
